David Springer, director of the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service, has been appointed as interim dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs beginning in January 2021. We value of Dr. Springer’s leadership and are proud of the role he will play in supporting the LBJ School as the search for our new dean continues. He will continue serving the RGK Center as our director throughout this time. Please see below for the statement sent out to the LBJ School community from Dr. Springer regarding his interim appointment.

“I am humbled and honored to serve the LBJ School of Public Affairs as the Interim Dean beginning January 2021. I would like to express my appreciation to President Jay Hartzell and Interim Provost Daniel Jaffe for providing this opportunity to lead our School through this important transition.

I also want to thank Dean Angela Evans for her commitment to the LBJ School over the last five years. During her tenure the LBJ School has risen in the U.S. News & World Report rankings – we are now No. 8 among all schools of public affairs, public policy, and public management, up from No. 14 when she became dean. We are on a strong trajectory for continued success.

In this season of the 50th anniversary of the LBJ School, I am inspired by the persistent commitment of our esteemed faculty, staff, students, and alumni who exemplify “thinkers and doers” in the public arena. We certainly face unprecedented challenges, at home and globally. Yet, I am hopeful, because with our mix of compassion and resolve, the LBJ School can embrace a growth mindset and an abundant spirit to continue impacting public policy and preparing the next generation of public leaders during a time more critical than ever before.

My commitment to you in the coming months is to value, support, and respect your expert knowledge, unique strengths, and diverse experiences. I will do my part along with the entire LBJ School community to continue our vital work cultivating an ever more just and civil society.”
