Dr. Thomas Darwin has worked in many professional arenas, both academic and non-academic. His academic work is in the area of the rhetoric of science, with a focus on medicine and health, and his broader expertise and experience include Design, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Planning, and Community Change.
Dr. Darwin has held academic positions including Director of Professional Development and Community Engagement in the Graduate School at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), Director of Community Partnerships for UT, and Director of UT's Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium. He also served as a tenured Associate Professor at The University of Memphis. Dr. Darwin has extensive experience designing and delivering courses and programming that focus on engagement with real world challenges, developing practical capabilities and capacities, and engaging deeper community and organizational systems.
Dr. Darwin’s consulting work spans a wide cross section of the government, nonprofit and corporate sectors. He has taught classes for under grads to post docs, served as the curriculum architect for Concordia University’s MBA program, and work with numerous organizations on strategic marketing and organizational culture. Tommy's workshops and presentation audiences have included the Center for Technology Commercialization, Manchester University, UK; The Entrepreneurial University Initiative at Oxford University in the UK, UT's Engineering Leadership Institute, and a Keynote Address at the National Association of Planning Councils. In 2003, he was the winner of an Academic Innovation Award presented by the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at the University of Texas.
